Deshalia Murray For years NCT fans have adored and cried over the vocals Doyoung has given us. The 28 year old and member of SM Entertainment’s ever changing boy group “NCT” has finally blessed us with his first album “청춘의 포말 (YOUTH)”. The album consist of 10 beautifully written and sung songs: “Beginning (새봉의 노래),” “From Little Wave (나의 바다에게),” “Time Machine” (feat. Taeyeon, Mark), “Serenade (내가 됐으면 해),” “Rewind (끝에서 다시),” “Warmth (온기),” “Lost In California,” “Rest (쉼표),” “Dallas Love Field (댈러스 러브 필드).” The title track of the album is “Little Light (반딧불).” Doyoung’s album stands out among NCT’s solo albums because it encapsulates a story through songs and the gorgeous vocals we know and love. Even before the release, the concept photos for the album set the calming tone for the album. Rather than a high energy or rap heavy album, fans are met with an album crafted to put us in our feelings (in a good way) through a variety of ballads, R&B, a little rock, and even a bit of a groovy vibes. From the vocals, lyrics, imagery, and Doyoung’s handsome face, this album goes beyond what we hoped for. The music video for the title track “Little Light (반딧불)” depicts Doyoung on the hunt for the little light (symbolized as a firefly in both lyrics and visual) that keeps alluding him. Singer Doyoung stands in an empty field and sings lyrics about said light shining on him and giving him the energy to shine beyond life itself. Despite how hard he runs, it isn’t until the end of the music video that he is met with more light than he expected. The contrasting darkness and light in the music video creates perfect imagery for the song and the album itself. However, it’s only the beginining to Doyoung’s artistry. Show Doyoung some love on his debut and follow The B.E.L.U Lineup for all things music and media!
