CINEMA PARADISE is a new era for Wakeone’s 9-member boyband born from the survival show “Boys Planet.” Only a year into their career this is ZB1’s fourth comeback, the boys have been busy. “All of the tracks included on CINEMA PARADISE are inspired by different movie genres, and with this release, ZEROBASEONE aims to ‘eternally capture’ the moments that they have enjoyed alongside their loyal fanbase, ZEROSE. Musically, CINEMA PARADISE taps into various genres ranging from electronic synth-pop, Afropop, pluggnB, and hip-hop” (Helix Publicity). This album continues to convey the growth and versatility the group has shown in just a short amount of time. The tracks include “GOOD SO BAD,” “KILL THE ROMEO,” “The Sea (ZB1 Remake),” “Insomnia,” “Road Movie,” “Eternity,” and “YURA YURA (Korean Version).” Despite the short tracklist, each song adds a new color to the album.

YURA YURA (Korean version), The Sea (a remake of the 1997 classic song by UP), and …. are all perfect for the summer to fall period we fans are in. Each song is fun and is designed to lift ZEROSE’s mood. However, taking a complete 180, “KILL THE ROMEO” is a more groovy, sexy track with choreography to match. “Insomnia” has the vibe that we got from “Dear Eclipse,” as it is an R&B-esque track but with a catchy, upbeat twist. Beginning with a heavy violin instrumental, “Road Movie” quickly changes into a rap-heavy track with hip-hop influence (but the bridge has us remembering that this is a group of talented vocalists). Lastly, “Eternity,” and “HELLO,” sit at the same table as the token vocally strong song of Cinema Paradise. It has a beautiful guitar-forward instrumental that compliments the member’s voices.

The music video for the title track “GOOD SO BAD” is the cinematic paradise Zerose were teased with. With a special appearance from famed actor Yoo Ji Tae, having starred in KDramas and movies such as “Mad Dog” and “Oldboy,” He acts as the scriptwriter for the boys, pulling the strings of their story until Hanbin cuts their connection (literally) from him. the video pays homage to multiple romantic movies such as “Love Actually” ZB1’s Gunwook describes the song’s meaning to be “I will keep loving you despite the pain” with those emotions being portrayed by the members throughout the video. Each scene is supplemented with beautiful visuals that emphasize the lyrics. While only a three-and-a-half-minute video, it packs different scenes and feelings into one, with the members showing off their acting skills. The song is a groovy, almost retro-sounding pop track that compliments ZB1’s usual sound while taking it to the next level.
