As we all know, K-music has many genres under its belt and one that is less talked about is the K-Indie scene. It is an extensive genre with many stand out artists. However, there are a few that really took the cake for me. With a discography full of melodic and beautiful tunes, it’s no wonder how artist, Nerd Connection, sticks out. On their new EP, ‘Hard To Explain,’ Nerd Connection switched their sound and released one of the best EPs of the year.

‘Hard To Explain’ is a rock album with punk tendencies. There’s hard guitars and heavy basslines that really seem like a far cry from their earlier releases. It makes you wonder if it is the same band. Songs like ‘I Robbed a Bank’ and ‘Planet Earth,’ take hold of you with their hard rhythms and catchy vocals. ‘Stand Up’ and ‘Been This Way’ are songs with soulful melodies that sit in front of a punk-y instrumental. From beginning to end you are encapsulated by Nerd Connection’s rock sensibilities.

With a stand-out EP like ‘Hard To Explain,’ it brings up the question, “Why Nerd Connection hasn’t  explored this sound before?” While their soft melodic indie was a treat for us all, this new harder sound definitely seems to fit who they are as artists in a better way. I hope it’s a sound they will continue to explore in the future.

Manisha's latest single, "Minor Details," is a delightful musical journey that captivates the listener from the very first note. With its engaging storytelling and clever lyricism, this track is a must-listen for anyone who appreciates a unique love story wrapped in beautiful melodies.

The song opens with a killer line, "he's never been to a concert and I'm a music major, the irony is funny," instantly drawing you into the narrative. It sets the tone for what Manisha describes as "If Taylor Swift wrote a musical," and she certainly lives up to that description.

One of the standout features of "Minor Details" is Manisha's exceptional lyricism. She weaves a tapestry of emotions and imagery, taking the listener through every detail of a charming love story. Her lyrics are smart and quirky, keeping you engaged and curious to see where the story leads next.

The song effortlessly embodies the 'opposites attract' trope, showcasing how love can transcend even the most significant differences. Manisha's ability to convey this theme through her lyrics is commendable, making it relatable to anyone who has experienced the magic of love.

A particularly delightful touch in the song is the use of instrumentation to enhance the storytelling. The inclusion of a clarinet right after she mentions it in the lyrics is a clever and charming choice, adding an extra layer of depth to the song. Additionally, the horns in the track contribute a rich and vibrant texture, elevating the overall listening experience.

Finally, let's talk about that high note in the bridge! Manisha's vocal prowess shines brightly as she belts out a powerful high note, injecting an emotional climax into the song that sends shivers down your spine. It's a testament to her incredible vocal talent and adds a memorable moment to the track.

In summary, "Minor Details" is a brilliant and captivating musical creation by Manisha. With its engaging storytelling, clever lyricism, well-thought-out instrumentation, and breathtaking vocal performance, it's a must-listen for anyone looking for a unique love story set to music. Manisha has truly delivered a gem that leaves a lasting impression.
