Maria Toombs ITZY (있지), a five-member South Korean girl group under JYP Entertainment unleashes their ninth mini album “GOLD” after successful world tour “BORN TO BE” in August. Members Yeji, Ryujin, Chaeryeong, Yuna and Lia, who recently came back from a 10 month hiatus, are back and ready to shine with a new sound with double title tracks “GOLD” and “Imaginary Friend. “GOLD” features 11 tracks, including six new songs and updated versions of tracks from their previous album, “BORN TO BE,” now incorporating main vocalist Lia. While the group acknowledges that their world has changed, they remain true to themselves, allowing their fans, MIDZYs to appreciate the familiar shine and uniqueness of the girls in this October comeback. The album begins with ITZY's first title track, “GOLD,” which features a hip-hop-infused beat and intense electric guitar sounds. This track captures the emotions of meeting someone who changes your life, evoking a feeling of sparkling “GOLD.” The second title track, “Imaginary Friend,” is a pop dance song that explores the concept of a fantasy friend, who can be an angel, a devil, or even a reflection of yourself. Its sweet vocal harmonies enhance the sense of imagination and protection. Among the b-sides, “Bad Girls R Us” provides an instant boost to self-esteem with its club-like energy. The lyrics, such as “no one conquers it all like a bad girl,” add a playful and carefree vibe to the upbeat melody. “Supernatural” expresses the thrill of being attracted to the unfamiliar. This energetic pop song balances a dreamy quality with a comforting sense of safety as it invites listeners to explore new experiences in a “Supernatural” world. The track “FIVE” celebrates the group’s fifth anniversary, highlighting that ITZY is always better as a quintet. Its lively tempo and fun lyrics emphasize that “nothing is better than five.” “VAY” introduces another hip-hop element to the album, featuring strong vocals and a groovy beat. This track includes a collaboration with Changbin of Stray Kids, who contributed to writing and co-composing the song. To close the album, listeners can enjoy the final versions of “BORN TO BE,” “UNTOUCHABLE,” “Mr. Vampire,” “Dynamite,” and “Escalator.” With all five members contributing, the album consists of 11 tracks that showcase their unique voices and styles. As ITZY takes part in choreographing both title tracks and begins to write more of their own lyrics, as they did on their previous album, they continue to find new ways to shine in their comebacks.
